“If you had it to do all over again, what would you do differently?” This is a question I’m often asked by MBA and BA students that I give career advice to in my spare time. In real life I’m a talent management consultant that specializes in recruiting, assessing and developing leaders for companies in the business services, health care, high tech, and manufacturing industries.
It is sad to say that most people are rarely taught just how companies make hiring/selection decisions at the top ranks of a company, and as such most people are prone to making career ending/destructive decisions early in life that they just can’t recover from. Mostly this takes the form of pursing a career because it pays well with no consideration given to how much, or how little, they care about what they must do ever day and who they have work with.
